With all the Christmas shopping and my recent purchase of new winter tires, I have no money left to buy a Xbox nor a HD tv. I am set to find other sources of geeky entertainment that won’t break my bank account. So I went to look for free games to download on the Internet. After trying my luck, I came across a wonderful website. It offers an online mass multi-player drift game. I strongly suggest you to visit http://www.ijji.com/. For my own pleasure, I have tested the game Drift City.Based on a near future, the adventure transports you to an island name Miltron. While this island is under the control of the OMD government, a mysterious car team named HUV terrorizes the streets of Miltron. As a new driver of the OMD government, you have to accomplish the mission to catch the evil HUV group in car chases.
You can play the game in single player mode which allows you to take up your mission, get money to buy and/or to upgrade your car. However, the most interesting part of Drift City is the multiplayer option. When you think you are good enough, you can join more than 1000 players and participate in exciting races. The track maps are huge!!! It is divided into 4 cities: Moon Palace, Koinonia, Cras and Ords.
In online mode, you’ll be able to buy car at the auction, compete against other players or even join a crew and prove your racing skill supremacy.
The game play is fairly simple by using W,A,S,D keys to control your car; Shift key to drift and Control key to use your nitrous. You’ll be able to use your nitrous when the boost gauge reaches its maximum. To recharge your boost gauge can be achieved by doing drift maneuvers. The downside is that there are only 4 keys to control your car, which limits the precision compared to a regular game controller.
The game graphic is in 3D manga cartoon style, similar to Automodelista on PS2. The environment detailing is considered poor but in all, Drift City is enough to keep you hooked for a couple of hours. The cars available are pretty similar to what we have in the real life except for their funky names. You can easily recognize the 240x, the Hyundai Tiburon, the Honda Civic, the Volkswagen Golf and then Nissan Skyline among others.
The only negative point of Drift City is the poor soundtrack and sound effects, but you can fix that by blasting your Itunes for your preferred background music.
The game developer suggests us to run the game on the following specs:
Windows XP, Pentium 2,4Ghz, 1024MB ram, GeForce Fx 6000 graphic card, 1G of free space and DirectX 9.0c.
This is a free game that can be downloaded in less than 1 hour. I highly recommend it. Hope you won’t get too addicted!
