This week we’re in Sacramento for Tony Vang’s Integra Type-R. The North American release of the Acura Integra Type-R started in 1998 when limited quantities were released in Honda’s trademark color (championship white). Through 1999-2000 despite poor sales Acura continued the production of the Type-R in 3 colors; championship white, flamenco black and phoenix yellow which was Tony’s choice.
The Type-R comes from Honda factory performance tuned. In the case of most Honda enthusiasts this means you leave the car stock, for Intuned Online readers it means it’s a great base to start. The exterior was kept on the original side with only a few modifications including a JDM HID conversion where the lights are protected by a thin yellow film. Carbon was used for weight reduction and down force with the Fiber Images Hood, J’s Canards and the Spoon front spoiler and mirrors.

The stock Type-R motor can be strong enough for some but for others like Tony it needed some work. Tony turned to Skunk2 for more aggressive cams and Act for a 6 puck clutch to keep the car grabbing every gear. The handling of this car was helped out with a Carbing 3 point strut bar, ground control adjustable suspension and a Cusco 6 point roll cage to stiffen up the body.

The interior of the car kept to its JDM heritage with Recaro SRD seats, JDM Steering wheel and some more accessories from Spoon including the ultra rare cluster. For grip, Tony relied on Nitto Gen Tires on top of some big 18” Advan RG II’s. To those who say the DC2 Type-R’s are a thing of the past and to come in to some new technology. We say that the DC2 is the phoenix that will always continue to rise from the ashes.
