As if last year wasn’t wild enough, this year Imports vs Domestics came through MIR with some of the fastest cars on the east coast with the most consistent runs. This year the two rival camps lined up at the 1320 again to battle it out on Sunday November 9. The drag racing was the main attraction; however there was also a car show and bikini contest to keep you entertained while you took a break from the track. Vendors from companies such as ClutchMasters, PasswordJDM, and various local shops had booths setup with tons of parts on display for potential customers who were bitten by the racing bug at the track and wanted to improve their own cars.
The car show featured local show circuit cars as long as up and coming show car owners work. The real focus of the event was the drag racing, and this year every driver brought 110%. The all motor class was dominated by Hondas, with runs in the 10’s and 11’s by Civic hatchbacks with the help of their K series power. Not just the domestics, but anything that stepped up to an all motor Honda at the event was crushed by the high revving and light weight combination. Competition was seriously fierce in the qualifying, with some ET’s coming down to the thousandth of a second. When the boost was added though, the domestics began to push back. Boosted muscle cars were running the turbo classes, with their rear wheel drive and well planted power, the imports were struggling to hold it down. The ET’s kept dropping as the day went on, with an Integra in the 8’s, a Viper in the 7’s (With A/C), and a 200+ Mph mustang, the crowd was jumping off the bleachers and roaring. Helping the crowd go even crazier, the failure and breakdown of some cars provided some real racing excitement for the spectators, with an Integra downshifting and doing a front end stand and the rear axle blowing out of a 60’s Camaro with the tire still attached then rolling back and hitting the car later down the track.
If the drag racing was too much for you, there was a bikini contest for a change of scenery with some lovely ladies.
