Let me take everyone back in time to 1986. Ronald Regan was President of the United States. The first Nintendo video game console was released in Japan and the cost of gas in the United States was $0.93 cents per gallon. This was also around the time where a Japanese car company called Honda started to become more popular with the release of the 3rd generation Civic. That’s how we get to this week’s Intuned Online feature: 1986 Honda Civic.
This week’s owner decided to take out the weak single over head cam engine designed for fuel economy and swap in a very nice and custom LS/V-Tec motor using an oversized internally built B18A block from the very popular Acura Integra and a PR3 Head from the EM1 Honda Civic SI (SIR Canada) to give this Civic consistent power when needed.
For anyone who’s ever driven an earlier generation Civic knows that the stock suspension is good for a stock car, but our owner since going for a bigger engine, made a wise move and swapped out the old suspension for Monkey Tec Coilovers, KYB Shocks and front and rear Cusco strut bars. To help stop this one time grocery getter; Integra disc brakes were installed front and back.
The exterior is very clean hosting an OEM optional rear wing & JDM Side markers. The owner also installed a set of custom SSR mkIII wheels in 15×6.5 wrapped in Nitto rubber. Intuned was extremely surprised at the interior of this wagon as it resembles a brand new car for how clean it was. Custom Del-Sol suede seats, Nardi Steering Wheel and ProSport gauges help make this interior one of the cleanest we’ve seen. In an industry where the newer the better thrives, it just shows that some things, like a fine wine get better with age.
